Poor Sephardic Orphans and Spinsters
who received a dowry from the congregation
A list prepared by Vibeke Sealtiël Olsen

Introduction

Vibeke Sealtiël Olsen extracted a list of names from archive no. PA334-1181 in the Amsterdam city archives (Stadsarchief Amsterdam). This database is an index of Dotar, an organization that provided dowries for poor Sephardic girls (Pautas) through the means of a lottery. The girls were assigned as "poor" by one of their relatives, brother, uncle, nephew etc. The "grau" (degree) shows the degree of their relationship.
