Régné, Jean. History of the Jews in Aragon:
regesta and documents, 1213-1327.
Hispania Judaica, v.1

Jerusalem: Magnes Press, Hebrew University, 1978.
Index of names compiled by Mathilde Tagger

Jean Régné (1883-1954) was an archivist and paleographer who published several historical works but his book on the Jews of Aragon based on the registers and documents found in the Crown of Aragon Archives is certainly the most important. It was posthumously edited and annotated by Prof. Yom Tov Assis and published by the Magnes Press, the Hebrew University press.

As its title states, the roughly 3800 documents included in the book cover the period from 1213 to 1327.

The aim of the present index was to compile all the different surnames (sometimes the same names with different spellings or preceded by various prefixes) used by Jews in pre-expulsion Spain during 1213-1327.

1,070 surnames from 3,800 documents are included.

Along with the surname, the list includes the given name, the year the document was written, the locality in which the person lived, and the document number as identified in the book. Occasionally notes were added.
