Introduction

This is the 55th edition of the Directory that has been published since 1887. The Directory is a full and comprehensive work. Thanks to the meticulous efforts of Mathilde Tagger, all Jewish names in the Directory were identified and are reproduced on this website. Jews participated in some 300 professions listed, from travel agents to railway operators. They had a large representation in ship ownership, banking, money changing and the medical profession.
