Abraham Galante (1873-1961) was first a teacher and an inspector in the Jewish Turkish Schools of Rhodes and Izmir. He conducted an active campaign for the adoption of the Turkish language by the Jews. In 1914, after the revolution of the Young Turks, Galante was appointed professor of Semitic languages and later of history of the Ancient Orient. His principal field of scientific activity was the study of the Jewish history in Turkey.

The present 9 volume book is in fact a compilation of several works done by Galante while the original book on the History of the Jews of Turkey, published between 1937 and 1939, was in only 2 volumes.

The four first volumes cover the following topics:

Volume 1:
1. Jews of Constantinople under Byzance
2. Jews under the Seljuk Turks
3. Istanbul Jews under Mehmet the Conqueror
4. History of Jews of Istanbul from 1453 (under Fatih Mehmet) to our days)- Part 1
Volume 2:
1. History of Jews of Istanbul from 1453 (under Tatih Mehmet) to our days)- Part 2
2. History of the Jews of Anatolia (Part I): Jews of Izmir- Part 1
Volume 3:
1. History of the Jews of Anatolia ( Part I): Jews of Izmir- Part 2
2. History of the Jews of Anatolia (Part II)
Volume 4:
1, History of the Jews of Anatolia (Part II)- Continued.

The 4 first volumes of the book cover three parts preceded by a general historical overview: 1. Jews of Istanbul, 2. Jews of Izmir, 3. Jews of all the 104 small communities in the Anatolian peninsula.
